Internship Position Available for Summer 2012
Under the direction of the Detroit URC Center Manager and working closely with Detroit URC faculty, staff and Detroit-based partners, the Intern(s) will assist the URC team with activities related to several Detroit URC programs and activities (NIH “Infrastructure Project”, Skillman Foundation “Neighborhoods Working in Partnership” and RWJ/Skillman/Kellogg Foundations “Neighborhoods Taking Action”) including:
- maintaining ongoing communication with academic researchers and community entities who are members of the Detroit URC’s Community-Academic Research Network (e.g., determining members’ research interests and community needs, communicating relevant research findings through facts sheets and policy briefs);
- contributing to a monthly eNewsletter and web-based communications for the URC (e.g., using social media);
- preparation of Collaborative Research Curriculum Manual for academic-community partners;
- coordinating capacity-building workshops for academic and community audiences on collaborative and community-based participatory research;
- preparation, coordination, staffing and evaluation of neighborhood training workshops on policy/advocacy for community residents in Detroit (e.g., preparing and organizing materials for training sessions, logistical preparation, on-site coordination at trainings, assistance with following up with participants, data entry of workshop evaluations);
- overall Center coordination (e.g., assistance with URC Board meeting preparation and follow-up, grant proposal preparation); and
- other overall URC-related duties, as needed.
Pay rate: $15/hr; 1 full-time or 2 half-time internship positions will be available in summer 2012.

Desired Qualifications
- MPH Students in need of internship experience in fulfillment of degree requirements, with a strong preference for candidates interested in and/or with some experience working with community-based participatory research or intervention projects.
- Preference will also be given to: those with experience working in inter-disciplinary, multi-cultural settings and interacting with community members; who are very well organized, are highly motivated self-starters and flexible; and who have good writing and verbal communication skills.
- Spanish speaking a plus but not required.
- Access to transportation for travel to various locations in Detroit (staff carpool whenever possible); local travel will be reimbursed at current government mileage rate.
